National Security

If any discussion of politics can be more convoluted than this one, I'm not sure I've seen it. Mark Steyn continues to stand for... well, I'm not sure what, but read this sentence and decide for yourself:

In sum, John McCain has been weak on homeland security, joining with numerous liberal Democrats to argue for closing Guantanamo Bay, applying the Geneva Conventions to unlawful enemy combatants, extending certain constitutional rights to detainees, limiting tried and true interrogation techniques ...

This is either incredibly self-delusional, or purposely misleading. I guess Steyn assumes that it is beyond question that national security requires the use of torture ("tried and true interrogation techniques"), extra-national prisons (Guantanamo Bay), and the elimination of Geneva Convention protections for people we don't like.

Where do you suppose he ever got that idea?
