Some People Just Don't Get It

Check this article out - it's on Hugh Hewitt's site (written by Pat Ruffini), and it's about the appeal of libertarianism. I thought it was going to be a relatively intelligent post, until I got to this portion:

If it’s possible to be known as a pro-life, pro-war, pro-wiretapping libertarian, then sign me up. Markos too brands himself a “libertarian Democrat,” though he’s never read Hayek and supports big government social programs.

Alas, no, he's not kidding. He blasts "Markos" (Kos from the DailyKos) for supporting "big government", right after he finished showing his support for "pro-life, pro-war, pro-wiretapping"... in other words, BIG GOVERNMENT. According to Pat, it's OK for him to support big government (even though he probably doesn't even realize that's what he's doing), but it's not OK for Markos. The only difference between the two positions is over what parts of the government should be big, not whether or not the government as a whole should be big.

Markos and Pat both support big government, even though they both argue that they don't. How odd...

UPDATE: Andrew Sullivan reviews the post as well. However, he misses the key point of big government being an amathea to a libertarian, yet supported by both proposed libertarians. A "pro-wiretapping libertarian"?? You've got to be kidding...
