Foreign Service Fiasco

This blog post regarding Diplomatic Service Officers created quite a stir a couple weeks back. The author was lambasting the FSO's who did not want to serve in Iraq. Apparently, SoS Rice threatened the officers with forced service if there were not enough volunteers to adequately staff in Iraq. Fortunately, enough volunteers were found, and forced service was averted. However, this bring up an interesting question: how are we to reach a diplomatic solution in Iraq if the Diplomatic Service Officers refuse to even serve in Iraq?
