Through the Looking Glass - This is NOT Wonderland

In reading different accounts of the rule of Pinochet in Chile, I came across this. It is hard to believe that anyone would suggest that a totalitarian regime based on intimidation and torture would be supported by those who also profess "American Values", but it seems true. It seems that, if you create economic opportunity (for a few), your other actions are forgivable.
