Flawed Patriotism

In doing some random reading, I came across some discussion of propaganda as it relates to the mobilization of a country. Some great quotes on the value an use of propaganda:

1. “Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

2. “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.”

3. “The broad mass of the nation … will more easily fall victim to a big lie than to a small one.”

So, which leaders utterd these timeless phrases? They seem very applicable to our current administration. Lack of patriotism, being "Un-American", etc. Citations for the above quotes show a dangerous correlation:

1 - Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Göring during the Nuremberg Trials.

2 - Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels.

3 - Adolf Hitler, in his 1925 book Mein Kampf.

Do we dare ponder the implications of a government that learns the lessons of totalitarism and thought control so well?

Very curiously, the majority of the American Public, when asked what is the justification for the current Iraqi War, will reply, "because they attacked us first... it's about 9/11, duh."

Amazingly, this public mindset happened without one single public official ever actually saying it.

Masterful, don't you think?
