Issues with Andrew

I sent this note to Andrew Sullivan today. See what you think:

I have to take issue with a comment you made in Fundie Athiests, Ctd; Not because I necessarily agree with the readers post, but because of the somewhat flippant remark you make at the end:

"A little coexistence with the majority is not going to kill anyone."

After reading your blog for quite some time, I would assume that this sentiment would not extend to matters of homosexuality, torture, or some of your other hot buttons. Realistically, it would not be a stretch to say that co-existence with the majority on those issues may, in fact, kill someone. Co-existence on the matter of slavery in the 18th and 19th century presumably was "not going to kill anyone" either. I don't mean to suggest that slavery and the school silence incident are anywhere near the same situation, btw. I merely indicate that "co-existence" on an issue where the majority is wrong (whether perceived or actual) may not be the best course of action.

Co-existence with the majority is a phrase that seems to be used only by members of the majority. There is a reason why.
