Cheney Hit Again

Many people have hit on the YouTube Cheney video I posted here. Juan Cole, who is much smarter in matters concerning the Middle East than I am, wrote this about it. He links this document, written in 2000, which contains administration fodder that the "liberal" media should drool all over:

While the unresolved conflict with Iraq provides the immediate justification, the need for a substantial American force presence in the Gulf transcends the issue of the regime of Saddam Hussein.

It seems that our "liberal" media failed to point this out in 2003 when we invaded Iraq.

In looking at the document, several names pop out. The first is William Kristol, the chairman of the Project for the New American Century, which created the article. Billy-K is also the editor of The Weekly Standard (surprised?). Fred Kagan was also involved (the most recent "surge" was his idea).

The paper also has many other dangerous points. Taken from ICH here:

The document supports a 'blueprint for maintaining global US pre-eminence, precluding the rise of a great power rival, and shaping the international security order in line with American principles and interests'.
This 'American grand strategy' must be advanced for 'as far into the future as possible', the report says. It also calls for the US to 'fight and decisively win multiple, simultaneous major theatre wars' as a 'core mission'.

Shaping international security according to our interests? Fight multiple major theatre wars? Recall that this in 2000 (before 9/11).

It seems that the PNAC got it's wish.
