Morality in the Grocery Store

Those of you who have read my Drug Wars post may be interested in this reader feedback:

I did a little searching to find out why nutmeg was listed on the ratio of fatal to effective dose drugs.

The typical dose taken is between 1-3 tablespoons, ingested with liquids. It takes between 1.5 – 5 hours to take effect, but the effects can last for an ENTIRE day.

The desired effect is a marijuana-like experience, but some users say it only caused intense depression, and yet others said it felt like a high fever. Almost all said that there was a definite “hangover” after effect.

Overall, I found
the linked website to be very interesting; apparently there all kinds of ways to get high using common items that can be purchased in the grocery or nursery. I guess I should have realized that herbs and plant seeds have been used for centuries by various cultures for exactly those purposes, and that they are readily available for purchase.

One major caution was that most purchased seeds have to be cleaned and washed thoroughly to remove anti-fungicides. No thanks, my inner Timothy Leary isn’t nearly that curious.

I guess the real point is that it has given me a very different perspective on what is considered acceptable/unacceptable or legal/illegal by western society. Why do I feel the urge to include moral/immoral?

Why indeed?
