Reflexive Morality

Call me a sadist, but I really do get a chuckle out of this stuff...

VP Dick Cheney's openly gay daughter Mary and her partner are about to be parents. Her father said people "ought to be free to enter into any kind of relationship they want to" but deferred to the president's policy supporting a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages. (For those that may be saying "Cheney has a gay daughter??", this is not new news, as seen here.)

Ex-squeeze me?

This might be the best example of political double-speak in recent memory. I have yet to hear Mr. Cheney explain whether or not this is consistent with "traditional family values". I assume his deeds show that it must be, but knowing the Republican party platform on this subject, one may expect a certian level of consternation from the Vice President. If there is any, however, it seems to be suspiciously well camoflaged.

This is only one of a series of conservative gaffes, using the "do as I say, not as I do" mentality. Perhaps there is a message here.

Update 12/15/06: President Bush supports gay pregancy too. Twilight Zone music anyone?
